[Barbie World]

::Insert overtired parents that are trying to sleep in on a Saturday morning:: “Mommy, will you pleeeeeeeaaase open the garage door so I can play Barbies?!  I want to meet Kimmie, it’s 8 o’clock!” Yes, 8 o’clock was the magical time that our neighbors and my parents had established as a time that was “okay”...

[Stars, They're Just Like Us]

Did you see AnnaLynne McCord last week?! The star of 90210 posted a makeup-free photo of herself on Twitter to her 141,000+ followers with the quote, “I woke up this morning and decided I’m over Hollywood’s perfection requirement.” Talk about putting a brightly blinking neon sign to your imperfections!  I give you mad props girl…talk...

[Israel Takes a Stand to Promote a Healthy Body Image]

Go ahead…click it, watch it. This week, Israel took a big step…a step that is really against the grain of the fashion industry, but they did it to protect their girls.  According to Reuters, “The law, passed late on Monday, says women and men cannot be hired for modeling jobs unless a doctor stipulates...

[Living in a Barbie World] » Michelle Ocampo Photography - [...] At 5’9″ tall and weighing 110 lbs, Barbie would have a BMI of 16.24 and fit the weight criteria for anorexia. She likely would not menstruate. • If Barbie was a real [...]

["I enjoy being me." -Adele]

Oh no he DIDN’T.  Karl, Karl, Karl…it hurts me to hear you called Adele “a little too fat.”  It made me incredibly sad when I saw entertainment sources (confession, I frequent US Magazine and People daily) blowing up with the news that Karl Lagerfeld, of Chanel, said, “She is a little too fat, but...

Sarah - you don’t think the cover image was photoshopped to pieces? she didnt look like this on tv!

Michelle Ocampo - Sarah, I’m sure you are right and there has been some PS. However, I’m wanting to look at the positive side that a woman with real curves is gracing the cover and embracing herself. “I enjoy being me” says it all…and to embrace your curves and your real self under criticism from a powerhouse like that shows her fearlessness!

rachel clare - where’s the “like” button!

rachel clare - ps. i know, the “like” button is above the comment section. I pushed it. :)

SARA - I am buying one tonight! Love her and her fearlessness!!!!

[This is Not Real...]

(Photo from PetaPixel) Actually, it makes me feel a bit sick to my stomach to even look at this image.  This was an ad for Ralph Lauren that took quite a bit of heat back in 2009.  I want to show you this image to educate you girls on the power of Photoshop.  This image...

Jennifer Chaney - This is just gross. Seriously gross. Thank you for posting the details, too. It makes me want keep all media away from my 7 year old… but I know I can’t. I really appreciate you calling our attention to all of this. My favorite thing you said: “Have we become that immune to startling thin women in magazines that this doesn’t raise an eyebrow within the advertising industry?”

Becky - Grotesque taken to a whole new level – the sad thing is that it really isn’t a whole new level because we’ve seen it time and time again. Excellent post and the statistics are very eye-opening to a mother of a young girl.

Jami Van Brocklin - Thank you so much for posting this! Not only do I do freelance photography, Michelle, but I am a nurse (LPN) by trade. I currently work case management for youth ages 16-24, who suffer from asthma, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes, plus I teach a fitness, nutrition, and health program. I aim to educate these at-risk youth about eating healthy, staying active, and taking care of themselves. Sometimes I’m the first and last person to talk to these young people about their health. I deal with mostly young adults who are obese and have low self-esteem, so they are on the opposite spectrum of eating disorders. However, I have 2 students (one male and one female) who are super thin and afraid of gettting “fat.” It’s so sad that this is what our society is doing to our young people.

McLain - That is scary, and definitely does not look right! Amazed that it was printed…just looks completely weird.
