::Let Me Count the Ways…:: Carmel-by-the-Sea Family Photographer

I felt so honored to photograph this family!  You may even see a familiar face…yes, I had the pleasure of having Jennifer (of Jennifer Chaney Photography) and family in front of my lens!   They made the two hour trek down to Carmel for some family photos on one of their favorite beaches.  A little fact about Mrs. Chaney…she lived in Carmel growing up and is even a graduate of Carmel High School (GO PADRES!)

Anywho, this session was important to the Chaney family because their beloved Ridgeback Beazy was just recently diagnosed with bone cancer.  It breaks my heart.  Any of you readers that have pets know how they are not just a “pet”, but they are a beloved member of the family.  It was important to them to capture Beazy enjoying the beach she loves with the family.

Que our arrival at Carmel Beach…it is a whopping 85 degrees (in Carmel that translates to…oh my gosh, the Earth must have just slipped in front of the sun…we must get to the beach FAST)!  I have never seen the beach that busy…it was NUTS!  I had to laugh looking back at the photos because we were really able to fake it to make it seem like we were the only ones around!   ((And to all the photographers out there, can I get an AMEN for the Content-Aware Clone tool?!?!))  I will show you a photo that Jennifer took during our session of me photographing the kids with people just watching gawking!!  I’m convinced they thought we were doing a photo shoot for People Magazine and were wanting to get in the spread!

Let me count the ways that I truly love this family…

Jennifer, you are one of a kind.  You are my sanity in this crazy photo world!  I feel so incredibly blessed to have you in my life.  And now I know why you are so amazing…your family is a gem!  I had so much fun with you all.  You are blessed.

And I’m starting something new with this family post.  Many of you are familiar with my interviews that I always give my teens during our sessions…well, we now have a family interview.  I was CRACKING up reading the kid’s answers…kids are so darn funny!!!

Enjoy the images…it’s sort of a lengthy post because I had a hard time narrowing it down; too many great ones!

What is your favorite family tradition?
We have so many!  I love our dance parities and family movie night.

Best family vacation you’ve ever taken…
Disneyland… hands down!

If you could take your children to see only one place in the world, where would you take them and what would you do?
We’d love to take them on a Safari when they’re older. That’s more for me, but hey, I’m the boss, right?

What is the one thing you hope to teach your child?
To be nice and always do the right thing. The golden rule is a very big deal to us.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you travel to?
Silly Big Sis: I want to go skiing again.
Crazy Little Brother: Go to the beach so I could collect shells so I could put them in my other shell.

Which animal would you love to be for a day?
Silly Big Sis: Bird because it can fly (Sidenote: You would be best friends with my little girl…she is obsessed with birds!)
Crazy Little Brother: Giraffe

What are you most proud of about your family?
I love our open expression of love. “I love you” is said many times each day. It warms my heart to hear my kids say it randomly and without prompting.

Describe the ultimate ice cream sundae.
Silly Big Sis: Rainbow sundae with sprinkles, a cherry, gummy bears and gummy worms!
Crazy Little Brother: If you eat rainbow frosting, you have rainbow poo poo.  (I’m sorry Jenthis is my fault!!!)

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Silly Big Sis: Invisible
Crazy Little Brother: (This is not going well… he is SO into super heroes, the list is ridiculously long.) I want to have Green Lantern’s powers. (phew… glad we finally got some where!)

How do you want your children to remember you and your spouse?
As happy and loving. And hilarious because we are. Mostly me though. 😉
What is the most important thing your mom and dad have taught you?
Silly Big Sis: To tell the truth.
Crazy Little Brother:  At the lake I gotta ride with daddy (???)  (Hmmm…yay for boat safety?!?!?!  Have you seen the movie UP?  This is one of those “SQUIRREL” moments!)

If you could play one instrument, what would it be?
Silly Big Sis: Violin
Crazy Little Brother: Instrument…. flute!
What is your favorite thing about being part of your family?
Silly Big Sis: Everything!
Crazy Little Brother: Putting spiders up (said through a mouth full of carrots) (Hmmm…Could you have decorated for Halloween today?!)

What is your favorite thing about your parents?
Silly Big Sis: I love them!
Crazy Little Brother: Um…. super heroes and Natalie (Seriously. WTH?) (I think this is where we probably should have repeated the question! lol)

And now…for you to see just what we were contending with at the beach, here is a photo Jennifer snapped while I was taking some pics of the kiddos!  Thanks for the photo girlie…more of these to follow in a later post! xoxo
